ROTARY CENTENNIAL
February 23rd 2005
100 Years of Service to the Community and the World

The Calabash Chorale led by PADG Malcolm Charles, the local chapter of the International Fellowship of Musician Rotarians (IFRM), was launched  at the Charter Night of the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia in October 2004, to start off our club's Centennial Celebrations and commemorate the RI Centennial.
At this this launching the song "Service Above Self - 100 Years" was performed and recorded for this first time. This song has since been submitted to Rotary International for official inclusion in the RI Centennial Celebrations.
Musical accompaniment to the chorale includes Keyboards, Rhythm Guitar, Bass Guitar and Steel Pan all played by Rotarians.

Rtn. Inger Walker from the Rotary Club of Gros Islet was a major contributor to the success of this project

Rotarians from Tallahassee, Florida contributed materials and came to Saint Lucia to assemble the bookcases

The 100 Bookcases for Schools Project was a joint project between the Rotary Club of Gros Islet, the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, Florida and the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia where 100 bookcases and shelves were distributed to schools around Saint Lucia.

July is observed as Literacy Month in Rotary International (RI) and in keeping with this observance the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia in July 2004 presented over 6,500 books to the Ministry of Education. These books were secured through the efforts of Mr. Redge Seaman in North Carolina and Mr. George Noon. The Rotary Club of Saint Lucia assisted with the logistics and costs of getting the books to Saint Lucia and clearing them through customs. The books are suitable for individuals from the age of 5 years old to University Level and span a broad range of topics.

The 2004-2005 Board of the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia was inducted at a Dinner Meeting on Friday 2nd July 2004.

The Object of Rotary

  1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity of service.
  2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
  3. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian in his personal business and community life.
  4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional men united in the ideal of service.

The ideal of Rotary

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The 4 Way Test

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
